Yayasan Indonesia CERAH, together with the Center for Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), has launched its latest report that accelerating the early retirement of coal-fired power plants (PLTU) while simultaneously replacing them with renewable-energy based power plant would bring enormous economic benefits.
Yayasan Indonesia CERAH and the Institute for Policy and Development (Poldev) Unitrend, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) launched our latest report titled "Public Perceptions of the Early Retirement Policy of Coal-fired Power Plants in the Energy Transition." To better understand the opinions of the local community around coal-fired power plants regarding the planned early retirement by the Government through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
As the nation progresses towards 2045, it is crucial to encourage young voters, who represent 52% of the total electorate, to consider climate and energy transition issues when making their choices in the 2024 elections. Climate and energy transition issues are global concerns that must be addressed by all leaders, including those in Indonesia. Therefore, these complex yet fundamental issues must be reflected in the campaigns and promises of presidential and vice-presidential candidates to ensure the achievement of sustainable energy justice.
